Roadrunners Top Highline, Set to Defend Title

LAKEWOOD, Wash.- Linn-Benton defeated Highline College in the NWAC Volleyball Championship Semi-Final on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Pierce College.

The Roadrunners are a perfect 35-0 now heading into the NWAC championship game. Highline College moved to 30-5 on the season and will now compete for third place. 

The Roadrunners prevailed in a tough five-set battle, winning the match 3-2. Despite Linn-Benton's hot start Highline would take the first set 26-24. In sets two and three, LBCC found their footing and won them back to back, 25-16 in set two and 25-20 in three. Highline took set four 25-21 to set up a back and fourth set five in which Linn-Benton secured their victory, taking the set 15-10. 

The defense held strong throughout the match as the team acquired 18 total blocks and 74 digs, but it was the Beak's relentless offense that made the difference. Four players collected double digit kills and were led by Freshman Maddy Hellem with 13.

Linn-Benton will now move on and look to cap off its undefeated run in the NWAC title match against North Idaho on Sunday Nov. 19. The match is set to start at 3 p.m. at Pierce College in Lakewood Washington.
