Roadrunners Hold Back Umpqua

ROSEBURG, Oregon – The Linn-Benton Volleyball team defeated Umpqua Community College 3-0 on Friday, Sept. 24.

The Roadrunners improved to 17-1 on the season and 4-0 in the NWAC South Region. The Riverhawks fell to 11-8 on the year, and 2-3 in the NWAC South Region.  

In the first set, the Roadrunners won 29-27. It was a marathon of a set that featured a combined 35 kills on 122 attempts. After being down 24-22 in the first set, the Riverhawks rallied back to tie it at 24 a piece. The Riverhawks then took a 25-24 lead after a service ace from Sierra Paroz. 

The Roadrunners set up outside hitter Shalyn Gray for a kill to tie it back up at 25. It continued to be a back and forth affair until the Roadrunners Shelby Nichol finished the set off with a kill and block on consecutive points. 

In the second and third set it was all Roadrunners who won the sets 25-13 and 25-19 respectively. Nichol finished with a personal season-high and match-high 12 kills. Gray had a team-high 14 digs for the Roadrunners. 

Paroz finished with 10 kills for the Riverhawks. Riverhawks Eve Elmore finished with a match-high 24 digs. 

Next up the Roadrunners head back home back to Albany to take on Southwestern Oregon Community College on Friday, Sept. 30. At 6500 Pacific Blvd SW at activities center, on the Linn-Benton Albany Campus.
