Beaks Topple #1 Umpqua 81-69

ROSEBURG, Ore. — BettyAnn Wilson scored 19 points, had five rebound, four assists and four steals to lead Linn-Benton past Umpqua 81-69 in NWAC South Region women's basketball action Wednesday night.

The Roadrunners (11-5, 3-3 NWAC South) jumped out to a 16-8 lead and never trailed the entire game. Umpqua (19-2, 7-1), ranked #1 in the latest NWAC Coaches Poll January 23rd, shot 50% from the field and outrebounded the Roadrunners 37-24. However, Linn-Benton's defense forced 23 Riverhawk turnovers.

Linn-Benton led 46-41 at halftime but held Umpqua to just 28 second half points and only nine points in the fourth quarter. The Riverhawks closed the deficit to 67-63 with 9:18 left if the game, but that would be as close as they would get.

Muriel Jones-Hoisington and Brooklynn Walters added 15 points apiece for the Roadrunners.

Linn-Benton has a bye Saturday and returns to action next Wednesday hosting Southwestern Oregon.
