Linn-Benton split doubleheaders each day of the weekend against Umpqua in NWAC South Region baseball action, but posted a season series record of 4-2 against the Riverhawks.
In Saturday's games at Linn-Benton, the Roadrunners dropped the first game 2-1 but came back to blank Umpqua 3-0 in the nightcap.
In Sunday's games at Umpqua,
Roadrunners Kaden Miller went 7 scoreless innings, and the Roadrunners offense came to life in game two, to split their twinbill against Umpqua Community College on Sunday April, 23.
The Roadrunners moved to 22-14 on the year, and 17-11 in the NWAC South Region. The Riverhawks moved to 21-15 on the year, and 15-13 in the NWAC South Region.
In game one the Riverhawks defeated the Roadrunners 4-1. Roadrunners Brady Baltus went 6 innings strong, before finding some trouble in the seventh. Baltus left the seventh with the bases loaded in a 1-1 game. The Riverhawks tagged the Roadrunners bullpen for 3 more runs in the seventh.
Baltus finished the game going 6.1 innings allowing 4 earned runs, on 4 hits, 2 walks, while striking 4. Baltus' record is now 4-2 on the year.
In game two it was the Roadrunners Kaden Miller who stole the show, and dominated on the mound. The Roadrunners offense came to life in the fifth inning, defeating the Riverhawks 5-0 in 7 innings. The Roadrunners tagged the hawks for 4 runs in the fifth.
Titus Dumitru went 2-4 on the day, with an RBI, and came around to score twice. Trey Nelson, who has quietly been one of the Roadrunners best offensive weapons lately, went 2-3 with an RBI, and a run scored. Nelson is now batting .291 on the year, swinging a .464 (13-28) average since April 13, with 7 RBI.
Miller went 7 scoreless innings, allowing 6 hits, walking one, while striking out 1. Miller improved his record to 3-3 on the year with an ERA of 2.33 in his last 4 starts.
"I think we just got to keep on doing what we do, our defense really came through, a couple of clutch hits really got the bats going," Miller said. "I was just trying to attack the zone, me and Ethan (Buckley) were on the same page, and just went after guys."
Next up the Roadrunner travel to start their four game series against Clackamas Community College on Thursday, April 27. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at 19600 Molalla Ave. Oregon City, OR.
