Linn-Benton Announces Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024

ALBANY, Ore. — Linn-Benton Community College will induct ten individuals and two teams into its Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024 next Fall. The induction ceremony will provide an endcap to the Roadrunners’ Hall of Fame Weekend activities.

The Class of 2024 will be inducted on Saturday, September 21, 2024 on the Linn-Benton campus in the Activities Center gymnasium. The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the induction ceremony. The Hall of Fame Weekend activities kick off Friday afternoon with the annual Hall of Fame Golf Outing at Mallard Creek Golf Course in Lebanon. 

Inductees include:

  • 1988 Baseball Team. The Roadrunners captured their first NWAC Championship, posting an overall record of 26-12 under head coach Greg Hawk. Team members include: Michael Barnard, Grant Beem, Gary Boyer, Keith Burden, Jerry Christiansen, John Cock, Chris Compton, Sean Doty, Ken Earwood, Raymond Garretson, Chad Hartsell, Phillip Hasslen, Demetri Kalomiris, Dennis Kluss, Richard Meek, Brian Mitchell, Timothy Mooney, Ken Nielson, Mark Quinn, Sean Reed, James Roso, Jeffrey Zigler and managers Fred Nesbit and Jimmy Martin, and assistant coaches Harvey Miller and Bill Brown.

  • 1972-73 Men’s Basketball Team. The high-scoring Roadrunners captured their first OCCAA title and went on to the NJCAA Region 18 tournament for the first time in program history. Head coach Butch Kimpton’s squad posted an overall record of 26-7, and scored over 100 points on 13 occasions. Team members include: Randy Bishop, Rich Coston, Jim Davidson, Kim Dorsing, Brad Fletcher, Dave Heins, Doug Hurl, Craid Martin, Vern McDonald, Gary Michel and Mark Peterson.

  • Steve Binns ‘80, Baseball. Binns was 1st Team all-OCCAA left fielder in ‘79 and ‘80, leading the Roadrunners to the NJCAA World Series each season. He hit .393 his sophomore season and went on to play at Portland State University. He was inducted into the NWAC Hall of Fame in 1999.

  • Lee Bradish ‘78, Basketball. Bradish was a two-time 1st Team all-OCCAA selection and led Linn-Benton to a 2nd place OCCAA finish his sophomore season. He was second in Roadrunners’ career scoring (1,102 points) until the 2024 season, and now rests in third place.

  • Steve Carothers ‘72, Baseball / Meritorious Service. Carothers pitched for the Roadrunners’ first two baseball teams. He has been a longtime supporter of LB Athletics, including serving on the Athletics Advisory Board. He spearheaded an alumni effort to successfully reinstate the baseball and women’s basketball programs after they were eliminated in 2013. He was inducted into the NWAC Hall of Fame in 1993.

  • Casey Cosler ‘85, Basketball. Cosler led her Roadrunner teams to an overall record of 42-16 in her two seasons. Her sophomore season she was named the South Region MVP and led the team to a 3rd place finish at the NWAC Tournament. She went on to become an all-America selection at Western Oregon State College. She was inducted into the NWAC Hall of Fame in 1996.

  • Tom Daniels ‘83, Baseball / Meritorious Service. Daniels was a catcher for the Roadrunners and a two-time all-OCCAA and all-District 18 1st Team selection, and an all-America selection his sophomore year. He led Linn-Benton to the OCCAA title in ‘83 with a 28-5 overall record and a perfect 13-0 in league play. He has also been part of the Athletics Advisory Board, providing instrumental support to the Department and in particular the baseball program, for which he hosts an annual fundraising event.

  • Steve Douglass ‘76, Baseball. Douglass led the Roadrunners to a 26-2 record to win the OCCAA title his sophomore season. The power-hitting first baseman earned 1st Team all-OCCAA, 1st Team all-District 18 and Honorable Mention all-America honors in 1976. He was second in OCCAA hitting (.400) and hit 10 home runs and had 45 RBIs. Douglass went on to play at University of Oregon.

  • Rick George ‘72, Baseball. George was an outfielder for the Roadrunners and helped the team to consecutive OCCAA titles. He earned 1st Team all-OCCAA honors his sophomore season, during which he hit .371 and had a team-high three triples.

  • Rachel Heisler ‘85, X-Country/Track/Basketball. Heisler was a three-sport standout for the Roadrunners. She was named the Most Outstanding Runner in cross country and helped lead the ‘85 basketball team to a 3rd Place finish at the NWAC Tournament. She was inducted into the NWAC Hall of Fame in 1999.

  • Ford Kimpton, Meritorious Service (posthumously). Kimpton was a longtime equipment room and athletics event manager at Linn-Benton. He was instrumental in providing support to all Roadrunner programs during his time with the program.

  • Dan Segel ‘86, Baseball / Meritorious Service. Segel was a member of the Roadrunners program in 1985 and 1986. His sophomore season was cut short due to injury, but he went on to play at Northwest Missouri State University. Segel co-founded the Corvallis Knights (then Aloha) and currently serves as its president. He has been instrumental in LB Athletics success as a member of the Athletics Advisory Board, providing vision and leadership as well as ongoing support. He was inducted into the NWAC Hall of Fame in 2005.

The Linn-Benton Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 2021 to recognize, honor and celebrate individuals and teams who have brought distinction to themselves and the College through significant contributions to athletics.
