
Linn-Benton Drops Series to Chemeketa
ALBANY, Ore. - The Linn-Benton baseball team came up just short in a four game series against Chemeketa Community College. The first two games were played at Chemeketa (25-18, 17-15 NWAC South) on May 1, where the Storm took the first game 3-2 in extra innings, then rallied for a 7-6 win over the Roadrunners.
Linn-Benton (27-9-1, 23-9 NWAC South) would return to Dick McClain Field on Saturday, May 3 and fall 4-3 in nine innings, then a late Storm rally led them to a 9-8 road victory.
Game 1:
The Roadrunners fell behind early, giving up a run in the bottom of the second and third innings to make the score 2-0. The visitors would respond with a Jackson Fera solo homerun in the top of the fifth inning making it 2-1.
Fera would cross home plate again in the seventh inning as he would advance from third base to score on an error, tying it up at 2-2. Chemeketa would win in the tenth inning on a bases loaded single to take the game 3-2.
Game 2:
The second game would start very differently as the Roadrunners scored two runs in the top of the second inning on a Conner Boyd RBI single that would score Aiden Hazen and Jake Holmes.
The visitors would tally four more runs in the fourth inning as Holmes would hit a homerun with Chanz Flores on base to score two runs, then Brooks Avery would reach base on an error scoring Boyd and Hazen. However the hosts would rally, scoring seven consecutive runs including a walk off RBI single to take the contest 7-6.
Game 3:
The Roadrunners returned home and found themselves with an early lead. Kolten Lindstrom hit a sacrifice fly to score Avery in the bottom of the third inning, then Bryant Starr hit an RBI double to score Landon Lea and Lindstrom reached base on an error that would score Starr to make it 3-0.
Chemeketa came to life in the sixth inning, scoring four runs and would hold onto that lead to claim the 4-3 victory.
Game 4:
The seven inning finale featured all kinds of offense as both teams scored six runs apiece in the first three innings. Trailing 9-7 heading into their final three outs, Sam Giansante would score Eli Rolfe on an RBI single to make it 9-8. However the home team could not secure the tying run and fell 9-8.
The Roadrunners will play their final regular season series starting this Thursday, May 8 as they travel to Umpqua Community College. Those nine inning games are scheduled for 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM start times.
Linn-Benton will then host the Riverhawks on Saturday, May 10 as they honor the Sophomores who will be playing their last regular season home games at Dick McClain Field. Those games are scheduled for 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
