Roadrunners Drop Two at Umpqua

ROSEBURG, Ore. - The Linn-Benton Community College baseball team traveled to Umpqua Community College for a pair of games on Thursday, but failed to get the offense going falling 7-1 in the first contest and 2-0 in the second.

Game 1:

The Roadrunners (11-3-1, 7-3 NWAC South) got off to a tough start as a fielding error in the bottom of the first allowed a run to score and set up a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make the score 2-0 going into the second inning. A sacrifice fly from Jacob Dodge drove in Bryant Starr to make it 2-1, but the Roadrunners would not score again in the game.

The Riverhawks (10-12, 7-5 NWAC South) would score two runs in the sixth inning, one in the seventh and two more in the eighth to finish off the first game in nine innings.

Game 2:

The second game, a seven inning contest, was a pitching duel as Jake Von Lubken pitched six strong innings, scattering six hits and allowing just one earned run while striking out a pair. However it was not enough for the Roadrunners who collected just two hits in the contest.

In the fourth inning, the Riverhawks scored a run on a fielder's choice and subsequent error by Linn-Benton to score the first run of the contest. A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning finished the game off as the Roadrunners were not able to mount a comeback in the seventh and final inning.

Linn-Benton will be right back to it Saturday, March 22 at Chemeketa Community College for an NWAC South doubleheader matchup, rescheduled from the week before. The first game, a nine inning contest, is scheduled for a 12:00 PM first pitch while the second game, scheduled for seven innings, will start at approximately 3:00 PM.
