EUGENE, Ore. - The Linn-Benton Community College baseball team offense led the way on the road as the Roadrunners were able to defeat Lane Community College in both games of a doubleheader. The visitors won the first game 7-4 in nine innings and the second contest 9-6 in seven innings.
Game 1:
Tied at 1-1 through the first four innings, the Roadrunners (10-0-1, 6-0 NWAC South) scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding lead. Conner Boyd drove in Sam Giansante to get the inning started, followed by a Jake Dodge double that scored Bryant Starr.
Kolten Lindstrom then reached base on an error that scored Dodge and Andrew Demianew. A Jake Holmes' single scored Lindstrom and a Chase Logan single scored Holmes to put Linn-Benton ahead for good.
The Titans (9-5, 5-3 NWAC South) scored two runs in the eighth inning but were not able mount a comeback. Roadrunner pitcher Noah Dewey earned the win after three strong innings and Caden Richardson recorded the save.
Game 2:
Linn-Benton got going early in the second game, getting out to an 8-0 lead through three innings. Dodge reached on an error, scoring Seth Willy and Holmes in the first inning.
Jackson Fera drew a bases loaded walk that scored Landon Lea in the second inning, then Holmes followed that up with a single, driving in Willy and Starr. Lea drove in Aiden Hazen to start the third inning, and a Fera triple a few batters later drove in Willy and Starr to put Linn-Benton in control.
The Titans fought back, scoring four runs in the sixth inning, but a Holmes sacrifice fly scored Brooks Avery for the ninth run of the game for the Roadrunners. Lane would try to rally late scoring two in the seventh and final inning but it was not enough.
Pitcher Brody McMullen secured the win for Linn-Benton and Wyatt Connally recorded the save.
The Roadrunners are scheduled to next play Mt. Hood Community College in NWAC South action Thursday, March 13 in a double header. The first game is scheduled for nine innings and starts at 1:00 PM. The second game, scheduled for seven innings, will start at approximately 4:00 PM.
