ALBANY, Ore. - The Linn-Benton Community College baseball team collected two more conference wins on Saturday, defeating Southwestern Oregon Community College by a score of 4-2 in the first game and 11-9 in the second contest.
Game 1:
Last week's NWAC Pitcher of the Week Brody McMullen threw another gem allowing just two hits over seven innings allowing no runs and striking out six batters in the victory. Ryan Rivers came on for two innings of relief while collecting the save.
Offensively the Roadrunners (8-0-1, 4-0 NWAC South) were led by Andrew Demianew who had three RBIs and also scored a run. Brooks Avery was 2-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Anthony Picillo took the loss for the Lakers (2-4, 0-2 NWAC South) despite allowing just one run over five innings while striking out six.
Game 2:
Both teams scored early and often in the second game, a seven inning contest. The teams traded runs in the first inning, then Linn-Benton scored five runs in the second inning to take a 6-1 lead highlighted by a bases loaded triple from Seth Willy that drove in all three baserunners.
The Lakers responded with seven runs in the third inning, including RBI singles by both Daniel Iwamizu and Jaxson Kister.
However, the Roadrunners responded with three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Nick Biagi drew a walk with the bases loaded, while a wild pitch allowed Aiden Hazen to cross home plate. Landon Lea then drove in Jackson Fera on a sacrifice fly to right field to even the score at 8-8.
In the bottom of the fourth the Roadrunners scored two more runs, as Biagi reached base on a fielding error that scored Kolten Lindstrom. Bryant Starr reached base on a fielder's choice that scored Hazen.
Pitcher Wyatt Connally came in to relieve starter Caden Richardson and after a rocky start threw three solid innings to claim the win, while Caiden Thomsen recorded the save allowing just one hit in one inning of relief.
The Roadrunners travel to Eugene to face Lane Community College on Sunday, March 9 for a double header at Bushnell University. The first game is scheduled for nine innings and the second game for seven innings.
