ALBANY, Ore. - The Linn-Benton Community College baseball team fought the elements this weekend in a four game series against Mt. Hood Community College Saints. These non-conference games played out on Friday, February 21st and Saturday, February 22nd.
Game 1:
The Roadrunners were able to secure 4-2 in the first game of the series. Due to a scheduling conflict with umpires, this game was played as an exhibition.
Roadrunners starting pitcher Connor Mendez allowed just one hit through six innings while striking out ten batters. Ryan Rivers relieved him for three innings of work and after a difficult start, rallied to secure the win.
Offensively for the Roadrunners Bryant Starr shined, going 2-4 at the plate while driving in two runs. Jake Holmes went 1-4 with a double, an RBI and scored a run.
Game 2:
The second contest featured Roadrunner starter Jake Von Lubken who went five innings, allowing one run and just two hits in the winning effort. Noah Dewey pitched two innings, allowing no hits or runs while striking out four to secure the 3-1 victory.
Starr again led the way for the Roadrunners at the plate as he was responsible for all three runs while going 2-2 with 2 RBI's and scoring a run.
With the Roadrunners hanging on to a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, Eli Rolfe led off with a triple. Starr eventually drove him in on a squeeze play, extending the lead to 3-1. In the top of the seventh and final inning, Dewey went three up and three down including a strikeout against the final batter to finish the game.
Game 3:
Pitcher Brody McMullen had six strikeouts in the start, and Wyatt Connally earned the save for the Roadrunners to start off the action on Saturday for a 2-0 victory.
The Roadrunner's Chase Logan and Brooks Avery each had RBIs. Avery drove in Chanz Flores on a squeeze play, and Logan singled to send Rolfe across the plate.
Game 4:
Caden Richardson took the mound for the Roadrunners to start the final game of the series and gave up just two runs while striking out four. He was later relieved by Caiden Thomsen who threw ⅓ of an inning. Unfortunately, the second matchup of the day was called at 2-2 in the top of the 6th inning due to weather.
The scoring for the Roadrunners came from a double from Holmes, and he was driven in by a Jackson Fera single. Conner Boyd also collected an RBI, driving in Starr on a squeeze play.
The Roadrunners (4-0-1) are scheduled to play at Dick McClain Field Thursday, February 27th, against the Clackamas Community College Cougars to start off NWAC South Region Play. These contests are scheduled to start at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
