LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Shalyn Gray had 17 kills and 13 digs to lead Linn-Benton to its first NWAC volleyball title with a 3-1 win over Skagit Valley Sunday afternoon at Pierce College.
The Roadrunners end the 2021 campaign with a 32-2 record, including a perfect 16-0 in South Region play.
Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player Taya Manibusan added 12 kills and 11 digs for the Roadrunners. Eva Buford had nine kills and seven digs while Alicia Vandervoort-Walters added seven kills and two blocks.
Jade Hayes (21 digs) and Sydnie Johnson (19 assists and 11 digs) joined Manibusan on the all-Tournament 1st Team. Alexis Chapman (4 blocks) was named to the all-Tournament 2nd Team.
Head Coach Jayme Frazier, in her 28th year, has now amassed 644 wins. Frazier has led the Roadrunners since 1993, except for a one-year hiatus in 2000.
Linn-Benton finished runner up in the Championship in 2000 and 2016.
The volleyball title also is the first NWAC championship for a Linn-Benton women's program in its 51-year existence.
