Beaks Claim 3rd Straight Title with Sweep of Clackamas

ALBANY, Ore. — Linn-Benton swept a doublheader from Clackamas in the NWAC regular season finale, posting 11-1 and 12-1 victories over the Cougars in NWAC Southern Region baseball action Saturday. The sweep secured the Roadrunners' third consecutive NWAC Southern Region title.

The Roadrunners finished the regular season at 20-4 in the NWAC Southern Region and 30-9 overall. Clackamas finished its 2019 campaign at 5-19 and 8-32 overall.

In the first game, Eric Hill pitched a complete game for the Roadrunners, giving up just three hits and striking out three batters in seven innings of work.

The Roadrunners pounded out 12 hits, including two each from Henry Wiebke, Richard Mascarenas, Jacob Melton and Colton Talton

Caden Hennessy pitched a one-hit complete game in the nightcap and struck out five batters.

Linn-Benton scored 11 runs in the first inning to blow the game open from the start. Jacob Overstreet went 2-for-2 and Melton went 2-for-3 to lead the Roadrunners offensively.

The Roadrunners advance to the NWAC Championship Tournament, which begins Thursday, May 23 in Longview, Wash. Bracket and game times will be posted after each NWAC region concludes Super Regional play May 17-19 which qualify a second team from each region for the Championship Tournament.
